The Academy of Urban Planning and Engineering is proud to be a city leader in CareerWise New York’s Modern Youth Apprenticeship program, a career-connected pathway that gives students the opportunity to earn while they learn. For the past two years, AUPE has had more CareerWise apprentices than any other school in New York City.
Through Career Readiness and Modern Youth Apprenticeship (CRMYA), students explore high-growth, high-wage careers, develop professional skills, and prepare to compete for apprenticeship opportunities with employers across New York City. Beginning in their junior year, eligible students can apply for competitive apprenticeship positions and, if selected, commit to two- and three-year paid work experience while completing high school. Apprentices split their time between the classroom and the workplace, gaining hands-on experience and learning directly from professionals in their field.
AUPE apprentices work across technology, finance, education, engineering, healthcare, and business, gaining real-world experience with organizations including Accenture, Gracie Mansion, the NYC Department of Education, NYC Health + Hospitals, Brooklyn Navy Yard, and DCAS. Through paid, multi-year apprenticeships, students develop professional skills, build industry connections, and gain experience that prepares them for college, careers, and long-term economic success.
At AUPE, career preparation starts long before students graduate. Through career-readiness courses, professional development, industry credentials, and work-based learning, we prepare students to compete for these highly selective opportunities. Our goal is simple: students should leave AUPE ready not just to find a job, but to launch a career.
